If I'm the Canucks, I wouldn't touch Carter's deal with a 10-foot pole.

I think the Islanders will trade for Carter. Okposo, Bailey + 2nd rounder would get it done.

On tonights game...

I have a feeling Luongo is going to have a stinker... he might even get pulled.... just my opinion guys.

No thanks to Carter... No heart, floating, non-physical waste of top 6 cap space. 4 hits in 30 games played

Nice write up...It is nice to have mutual respect..at least I have for the Canucks..

I'm thinking 4-3 'Nucks...reason being with the last change. Having the twins doing one of their 23 skido plays on Commadore/Ericsson (slow) will be the difference.

Hope for a good game.

I'm not a big Spector fan, but this is an intersting article on Schneider.

"He has the Wings ready to play every night, and is the only coach in the league that I can say that about. I hope one day Babcock sits down and writes a book on how to do what he does. It would be a book that all coaches could benefit from."

?

The last game before the all star break, Detroit lost to Montreal, of all teams, 7-2. That was only one week ago.

What evidence do any of us have as to how effective a coach is vs how much the players have to do with success? 90% of coaching happens behind closed doors. The other 10% is alotment of icetime and half of that is handled by assistant coaches.

IMO, the impact of coaching is overrated and almost undefinable by the common fan unless you have insider knowledge of how a coach works.

Hate to agree with him. I would rather have the 6'3 220lb winger than backup on the bench.

The question is, what 6"3 220lbs winger is on the market?

Did anybody else read the article with Mike Babcock in the province today? These two teams are just in bed with each other. Have you ever seen a rivalry with this many cocks in their mouths. Jk. But seriously, it's a breath of fresh air from the lack of class shown by the Bruins, Hawks and Sharks. The Red Wings get it and there's a reason they're always at the top. Babcock is great.

None worth their cap hit... Only way I trade Schneider is if the return involves Evander Kane.

That's kind of what I'm thinking too.

My return doesn't have to be Kane, but the cap hit can't be crazy like Nash's is.

7.8 mil for a guy who's 48th in goals, 82nd in points, and is 833rd in +/-

Absolutes are tough, but I would say Babs does as good of a job as any regarding pulling the levers getting people ready to play. You some times can't out coach human nature (coming out flat regarding the 7-2 loss vs the Habs).

Can't really put a % on what a good coach can do.(or getting rid of a bad coach)..but we all can think of some pretty good examples...Think Pens '09 after firing MT. Wings finally getting a cup after bring in Scotty. Caps have the players...what is the missing piece?..coach? Wings had Dave Lewis after Scotty..nice guy..bunch of 1st round exits..got the boot and brought in Babs....2 years later=Cup.

Babs actually did some magic in '09-10 after 2 years in the the finals when there was massive games loss to injury and the team was able to finish 5th seed. Probably his best year coaching.

I don't see the use in trading Schneider unless the deal is phenomenal. Right now he is winning the big games and costs a lot less than Luongo. I definitely would not trade him for Carter. If it was a deal that involved Nash then I would look at it, but not for Carter unless you get their first round pick as well to make up for it.

I know Luongo has a NTC, but its limited and I bet if he could go back to Florida (i.e. Tampa) he would waive it. Luongo for Malone and a pick. Similar salary and the Canucks get a hard hitting winger for the second line.

The Red Wings are all class top to bottom and it’s also the model the Canucks as an org are trying to follow with the style of play, player development, etc. If the Wings became our main playoff rival at the expense of the hate fueled sagas we have with Boston (and with Chicago to a lesser extent) I’d be just fine with that. Better hockey viewing too.

The other thing to consider, too, is who's looking for a goalie. You got teams like Columbus, Long Island and Tampa Bay. The Jackets are 23 points out of a playoff spot, the Isles 10 and the Bolts nine.

These teams aren't making the playoffs, so why the need to acquire a goalie now? Realistically, and this is assuming that the Canucks are looking to deal Schneider, it makes so much more sense for a deal to be done in the off-season.

Sure, Schneider might be the Canucks' best piece to bring in a forward before the deadline, but I think waiting until the off-season might open up a lot more doors in terms of both trade partners and the return.

IF they move Luo I don't think it would happen until offseason, whereas we could use Malone now. Nash's cap hit at 7.8 (which Ian pointed out) could really handcuff our team. TB might not want to give up 1rst round, should be a good pick. For rentals could look at Downie and Moore. Curious what kind of magic MG works, I do believe we need to get tougher and some more D insurance.

That trade of the day looks horrible. I’m not sure if anyone’s paying attention but Carter seems to go on lengthy injury spells every year (and would probably go on another one in the playoffs). On top of that we already have a gargantuan contract on the books, why pile on another? As for the mentions of Nash, at 7.8M/yr for the next 6 years he’s too expense. We’ve built a winning team because players have bought into the organization and taken “home town discounts”. The Sedins are 100 point players and are on $6.1M. Kesler’s a Selke winner and is on $5M. Incorporating Nash’s contract into that mix would be foolish and very unlike Gillis.

I’m almost positive that Gillis will not trade Schneider prior to the TDL given how well he’s played and that he’s proven he can come in cold against the best teams and perform well – a big requirement come playoff time as Lu most likely will get the vast majority of starts. The more likely scenario IMO is Schneider gets traded prior to the draft for something like a top 10 pick + 2nd line winger or 3/4 Dman. This might go up if he tears it up in the playoffs

On a completley unrelated note, Kadri was reassigned to the AHL.
